Castles. They conjure up images of a grand lifestyle, turrets, traditional looking wallpaper and décor. They are for the rich, the famous and the royal, right? Well this may be true for the castle element of this, but what if you could add a little bit of this castle grandeur to your own home?

The simple addition of castle style windows can transform many homes into something that looks amazing. Of course it isn't something you can just put in any home, because it could look wrong for a variety of reasons. However, if your house is up to the change, then why not have a look at the 10 we have selected to give some idea on the style of windows were are talking about.

Rustic castle

Castles all have a certain amount of grandeur to them, however, they also hold a very rustic appeal in many ways. Castles have a huge variety of windows of different sizes. This fact makes it easier to incorporate castle windows into our own homes, whether they be small or big. This small period window is set in bronze, with a diamond lattice set in lead. It is very rustic looking and quintessentially English. Designed by Architectural Bronze, they are lovely.

Church style

Castles and churches have a lot in common in terms of style and appearance. A lot of homes are converted churches and windows like these ones are a beautiful additional feature. The diamond feature is a common design, but the effect is classic an ageless. The peaked arches at the top of this window make it distinct and look very different.

A modern castle

Castle windows do make us automatically think of large and grand, but as we have seen so far, they can come in all sizes. However, here we can see a modern take on a castle style window, and it looks fabulous. Set in a modern home, it is very large and looks like the rising sun. The high ceilings and chandelier add to the final look of this open plan house too. But the window is the shining star.

Simplicity is beautiful too

Grandeur doesn't always equate to elegance. Simplicity can often be key to achieving the right look. Without over thinking the design too much, we can see here that this window is slim, tall and simple on the eye. It could easily be a castle window, but in reality, it is part of someones home. There are a lot of properties that could have a shaped window like this installed, but a lot of older houses will have something unique like this already. The white frame and pale wall are understated and delightful.

Country castle

Thick walls, such as in this image, are part of castle living. Thick walls were needed to defend from attacks, thankfully, we don't need to think about that anymore and can just concentrate on style. This deep set window looks like it is set in a country cottage with traditional stone work making the walls. The beautiful oak surround adds a lovely warmth, as the sun comes in and brightens the living room.

Peaked interest

Have we piqued your interest in castle windows yet? What about a peaked interest? We have seen some arched windows and those with gorgeous panel work too, but this minimalistic approach to a castle stye window is stunning. It gives amazing views to the landscape around it and looks magnificent. It doesn't need anything else to make it look good, it does it by just sitting there as it is. Both contemporary and slightly traditional, the shape and sharp edges really work well.

A very modern take

Windows have come a long way since the first castles were erected. From sitting embedded deep into walls, small and with no glass, to something like this. These projecting glass box windows are really tall and contemporary. The stand out, as well as up, making them very unique. Obviously these would look out of place in a three bedroom terraced house, but on a new build bespoke home, they are perfect.

The more light they better

Castles did used to be quite dark places inside, getting a lot of light from candles. As time went on, windows became bigger and more elaborate. These days we like getting as much natural light into our homes as possible, because we know the benefits of it. We have taken the romance and ideas of castles and placed them in modern homes. This window is wonderful, in that it replaces a whole wall. The exposed beams match the wood work around the door frames and windows, making everything blend well.

Let there be light

Tall windows are certainly in the style of castle windows. We imagine a great hall with tall and beautiful windows filling the room with sunshine. This is exactly what these windows do. Mixed with a little Georgian style, they are tall, long and one is arched at the top, just to make it complete. During the day, theses windows allow sun to stream in and fill this home, and by night, well you can see for yourself just how glorious they look!

A dash of colour

Stained glass is something that will always be beautiful. From castles to churches and now homes, it is something that everyone can have. It may be in the form of some glass in our front doors, or a full on custom window, but it gives a real feel of castle style windows. Primary colours are bold and striking, and can be mixed with more intricate designs. We love the fact that you can have bespoke, made to measure stained glass windows in your homes.

Castle windows don't have to be on castles, we feel we have shown this quite well. Tell us about your windows below!
