Kitchens can be the most complicated room in the home to design, and it's really no surprise. They require a great deal of storage, they often feature a huge amount of appliances that you want at hand without cluttering the countertop, and we use them multiple times a day, requiring more cleaning than anywhere else in the home. But fear not, for the professionals at homify love a good challenge, and today we're going to take a look at some of their most innovative kitchen solutions.

The biggest issue is probably storage. The sheer amount of items we keep in our kitchen can be visually messy, but also makes it feel like we need to undertake a spring clean every time we want to wipe down the bench. To address this our list necessarily features a number of unique cabinets, cupboards, and other storage solutions. But enough talk, let's see what our experts have come up with to keep your kitchen looking fabulous!

1. A cutting board drawer

There's really nothing more frustrating when cooking than being unable to find a clear surface for food preparation, but if this sounds like you, then we have a great idea. A cutting board built into a drawer means that you will always have a spare surface, plus you never need to worry about where to store those large wooden cutting boards.

2. An island unit

If you have a spacious kitchen an island unit is a great way to provide extra surface area. Perfect for serving plates when you have guests over, or as an extra countertop when preparing large amounts of food, they also provide storage underneath. This island is being used to store cookbooks and extra dinnerware, not to mention is looks super stylish with the woodgrain countertop.

3. A pan rack

This idea comes straight from professional kitchens and into your home, and is a great way to lend your kitchen some industrial style. Suspended from the ceiling, the rack features hooks from which to hang your pots, keeping them handy at all times, and ensuring they completely dry after washing. Not only that, but with a fantastic pot collection like this it adds some visual flair, with the high sheen metals bouncing light throughout the room.

4. Hanging your pots from a steel bar

This is similar to the last idea, but toned down a little, with a single metal bar running across the whole kitchen for hanging pots and other kitchen items. The main thing here is avoiding one of those cupboards where all your are pots stacked precariously; apart from being incredibly inconvenient this also presents a health hazard due to it being the perfect environment for bacteria to grow if there is any extra moisture or food remains in any of the pots.

5. Shelving units on rails

One of the most common issues with kitchen storage is how awkward it can be to reach items at the back of the cupboard, especially if it is overstuffed. Solve that problem with shelves on rails that can be easily pulled out to see exactly what it is you've stacked away.

6. Steel baskets

This is a great idea for storing appliances, especially ones that come with lots of cords and additional pieces. Keeping everything in a basket means that you can pull it out without disturbing everything else in the cupboard, and it's just as easy to put it away after you're done.

7. A narrow wall-sized shelf

If you have an empty wall in your kitchen, consider building a narrow shelving unit that can cover the whole wall. Remember you can never have enough storage, and this will function as an easy to reach cellar.

8. An illuminated drinks cabinet

We just love this ultra-stylish piece that proves these ideas aren't purely practical, they make your kitchen look great too. This drinks cabinet is illuminated by LED lights and looks absolutely stunning, plus it provides dedicated refrigeration for refreshments, freeing up the other refrigerator for food.

9. Functional cabinet doors

Out countertops are often overwhelmed by spices and condiments, so it's always a good idea to store these if you can. Shelving units in the doors of your pantry are a great way to do this; it's a clever use of space, super convenient, and it makes it far easier to sort all of your kitchen supplies.

10. Recessed and covered shelves and counters

This idea is perfect for the super tidy who want a pristine kitchen. Putting doors on shelves and workspaces means that when you're not using them you can close them off and make the clutter disappear! Adding a countertop to your pantry is also a good idea for those with limited space.

11. Flexible tap fixtures

This idea again comes from professional kitchens, where handheld tap fixtures, not unlike a shower head, make cleaning substantially easier. The freedom of movement allowed by pull out kitchen taps means that you can spray down pots and pans, and it also makes washing fruit and vegetables a breeze.

12. A blackboard

A kitchen blackboard is the perfect blend of design and function. It looks quaint, but it's also the perfect place to write down recipes, reminders, and notes for your family, plus it will look great in any decor, from cute and traditional to modern and industrial.

We hope these tips help you to make your kitchen stylish and convenient, but for even more ways to make your kitchen stand out have a look at these fantastic breakfast bars!
