With increasing necessities and less time to ourselves, our lifestyle dwindles and falls flat on the face. We tag work as a priority, and home, the second in line. We forget to take care of our house, especially the bedroom which usually remains away from the peering eyes of our guests. We ignore the dumped clothes, the drawn curtains, the creased bedsheets, or the dark ill-lit room altogether. These are some of the little-big chores, which we keep postponing, throughout the day. Now, the biggest challenge we are likely to face is, when guests suddenly drop in. When that happens, don’t curse yourself or think you are incompetent. Trust me, you are not the only one to face this dilemma. Bedroom, being a private space, we often don’t pay much attention to its aesthetic appeal as much we do about the living room or the dining area. If you think, that by chance, your guests might pour into your bedroom, try not to panic. Instead, think smart and follow these few tricks to sort the bedroom mess within 6 minutes.

Make your Bed

A neat bed, with properly tucked in sheets can alter the overall look of your bedroom. Since it’s the biggest furniture in your bedroom attracts the maximum attention. So, begin with sorting your bed. Does the bed sheet need a change? If you don’t think so, just straighten it out and tuck it in. Arrange the pillows in their proper places and fold the comforter and keep it opposite to the pillows.  Or you can simply pull your duvet over the pillows to make your bed look presentable. Half your work is done with tidying up the bed.

Make your Room Airy and Fragrant

Who would like a dingy, dark bedroom? Even if you have a neat bed, a dark and smelly room might cause you immense embarrassment. Open the windows and draw out the curtains. Let some light and fresh air come into your bedroom. If you want, you may spray some mild room freshener too. If your guests are visiting in the evening, how about lighting up some tiny scented candles? If time permits, use up your essential oils by setting up the oil diffuser. This will definitely create a very impressive ambiance in your bedroom.

Time to De-clutter:

Pick up all those changed clothes from the floor and put them in your washing machine right away. You may switch on the machine later. If you have folded laundry lying on the chair, keep them inside your cupboard. Sort them later. Try not to keep anything on the floor, chair or bed as that will spoil the look of your room, making it look cluttered. Pick up all the papers, magazines or newspaper and dump them in your storage for the time being. Trash if you have any papers or used tissues lying here and there. By doing all of this, you will notice that your room is already looking much better and organized. If there is any ‘lucky’ space under your bed, make use of it by quickly shoving in all those things that you don’t need immediately. However, after you bid adieu to your guests, remember to pull out whatever you have kept underneath your bed or just tucked in to save your image. Keep the items in their respective places.

Save yourself the Embarrassment- Check for any Private Things Lying Around

After setting up your room, you surely don’t want to lose out on the brownie points just by being a little less careful. To avoid any embarrassing situation, run a thorough check on your bedroom. Since it’s your private place, there could be underwears, body lotions, books, or other private things lying around. So, take a moment to scan through your room and in case, you find something, which you wouldn’t want your guests to see, just put them behind the curtain or in your drawer.

Sparkle up the Floor

Congratulations! Your room is 90% ready for your unexpected guests. Not just ready, but ready to impress. This bedroom, designed by Bloomint Design, from Barcelona, Spain, suggests that a neatly-made bed and a clean floor works wonders. Once you have managed to clear out the mess on the bed, floor, etc, take a look at the floor surface. If time permits, try getting the floor quickly mopped or vacuum cleaned. Freshly cleaned floors sparkle and make the room look neat and tidy. Also, if you have area rugs in your room, straighten them out. In case, they are due for a wash, just replace them with another set of rugs quickly. If there are no spare rugs, don’t sweat, just put the over-used rugs out of sight. That is good, till your guests leave.

Dim Lights Please!

Take a final look at your room. Take pride in the fact that you have managed to transform the entire look of your bedroom within 5 minutes. Now, if your guests are coming in the evening, switch on a dim light to set a soothing and relaxed ambiance. Switch on your night lamp or any other mild light that is present in your room. A dimly-lit room will make it difficult for your guests to spot imperfections if any. So, it’s better to avoid bright lights in your bedroom, until of course your guests insist on taking a detailed look at your bedroom (which is quite unlikely to happen).

Now that you are prepared for your unannounced guests, forget that panic button. Just remember to follow the above smart tips and make your room presentable for your visitors. Rejoice the compliments that you receive on how well you maintain your space, in spite of your busy schedule.
