This home was designed by Romero De La Mora, an architecture and development firm based in Mexico City. The single-storey dwelling is sleek and contemporary, adopting the open plan ideals of the modern movement.

With neutral colours and a refined material palette, the space is bright, simple and sleek. Touches of texture find their way in, providing a welcome haptic quality among the otherwise smooth surfaces. The overall effect is calming, entrancing, and serene – just see for yourself!

The transparent skin

The exterior forms a transparent skin – the large glazed openings allow ample light into the space and views that look out onto the garden. The gently sloping roof is concealed within the deep eaves. Raised above the finished ground level, the slight elevation creates a threshold between inside and out, prompting a moment of pause between leaving the outer world and entering the comforts of the home.

Simple and neutral

Past the wide entry door, complete with a fan light overhead, one moves straight into the social heart of the home. A large stone fireplace forms a central feature in the space, adding a touch of texture. The gentle slope of the roof is made visible on the interior. The colour and material palette is simple and neutral. For more living space inspiration, take a look here!

Open plan living

Here, we garner a sense of the relationship between the spaces – while open and connected, they still manage to achieve a sense of differentiation. This is, in part, due to the ceiling insets containing recessed strip lighting which form a series of loci around which the various spaces gather.

The kitchen is seamlessly connected to the other social space of the home and adopts the same colour palette. Glossy white surfaces sit atop the timber veneer cabinetry, while the tiled flooring slips into the background.

The scullery

In addition to the large and well equipped kitchen there is also a scullery. This allows for the less glamorous features and fixtures to be concealed. The inclusion of a scullery highlights the social nature of the home which is perfectly equipped for entertaining. For more kitchen inspiration, take a look through these varied examples.

The bathroom

Again, the neutral tones permeate – this time in the bathroom. The touch of texture, this time, is in the form of a stone wall that forms a backdrop for the sleek and contemporary stand-alone bathtub. Frameless frosted glass gives the shower a sense of privacy. The space is simple, yet warm and inviting.
