Taking refuge in a warm, cosy and romantic country house is the desire of many.

Today, our dreams are going to come true – or just about – thanks to a little tour that we are going to take you on of some of most picturesque country homes that have been designed and curated by international architects and designers.

As we go on this adventure, we are going to explore some rustic designs in 10 dream locations in all of the distant corners of the world. We will see how natural materials, like stone and wood work together with the exterior brick designs. We will also see how earthy colours have been used to warm up the structures, enveloping the designs in lush green gardens, blue swimming pools and neutral palettes that cover the wall's surfaces.

Let's start the tour right away and let ourselves be seduced by some of the most charming and rustic homes in the world!

One level

In this design, modern and traditional meet to create a gorgeous combination.

Developed on one level, the structure is covered with stone veneer and is surrounded by an exterior made up of stone paving and lush vegetation.

All of the elements blend together beautifully, creating a very warm ambiance that is typical of the rustic style.

Surrounded by greenery

In this design by PM Architecture, what strikes the eye immediately is the large and expansive lawn that is dotted with bushes and trees, introducing a wonderful home.

Surrounded by greenery, the country-style house is a perfect example of a fusion between comfort, shape, size, space and aesthetics.

Every detail has been thought out meticulously and blends in perfectly with the environment so as to not create a disconnect between the architecture and the environment.

Iconic and spacious

The sloping roof and iconic nature of the typical homes found in the British suburbs are the main ingredients of this next design.

The brown brick combines with the wood of the upper floor, creating a playful contrast between the home and the garden that surrounds the entire house.

Outside of the entrance, there is a expansive stone patio that flows into several levels, almost like an amphitheatre. This is perfect for open-air relaxation!.

The upgraded farm

Inspired by a Tuscan farmhouse, this special country house is completely covered in stone.

The monochrome that characterises it is a typical stylistic feature of traditional houses, which gives the original home second life without altering the original structure.

The high quality of this home is maintained throughout the property, from the garden to the swimming pool to the paved little walls in the garden.

Untouched by time

Symmetry is the key word here.

The wooden house, designed by Fusion Design, is a typical example of a country home that retains the retro charm in both the structure of the house itself and the driveway.

Everything is taken care of here, in the finest detail, from the facade to the roof, from the fixtures to the colour. Even the flowers and garden are flawless.

With an adjoining pergola

A body of water is an incredibly modern feature, separating a rustic villa from the surrounding area. It also can co-exist beautifully with the different types of vegetation.

In this design, we can see how a large pergola creates the perfect sheltered entrance to the home, where one can relax and enjoy the view of the pool and the garden if need be.

This is a very unique feature when it comes to a traditional country home, which has been reinterpreted in a contemporary way and adapted to the current dynamic environment.

The modern cottage

This is a typical country home – the cottage design. This design remains one of the most iconic, even as it becomes more and more updated and modern.

This stunning home has been included in this category for a reason, thanks to its strong country style and traditional features. Don't you love the traditional English thatched roof, which contrasts beautifully with the white wall?

The fixtures are also no less important. The doors and windows have been designed in the same pastel tones, creating that very natural palette that pleasantly complements the whole house.

Mediterranean tradition

This is one of the finest country houses, with its integration of stone and white plaster, creating a warm and welcoming residential home.

The stone pathway gives people access to the entrance of the house, which is reminiscent of a strong Mediterranean tradition.

The blocks above the roof area are connected to each other thanks to a splendid facade made from wooden pillars and brick. This is a delightfully friendly atmosphere!

Collision of contemporary and traditional

There are two design styles here that shine through the brick walls, sloping roof and glass walls. This creates a very complex home that is dynamic and interesting.

What strikes the eye immediately is indeed the contrast between the two materials, although it is pleasant and works well.

Mix and match styles to create a very classy and sophisticated look and feel.

The country house set in concrete

This Spanish country house, designed by Ignacio Quemado Architects, is very impressive with its concrete lining. Through natural colour, it takes on the shape of a typical rustic home, while not utilising wood or stone.

The roof consists of ceramic tiles, which protrude over the patio offering protection and shade. The expansive use of windows allow panoramic views of the surrounds.

The outdoor dream

How do you not fall in love with this beautiful outdoor space, characterised by solid wood and meticulous attention to detail?

The wooden furniture combines perfectly and gently with the nature that surrounds the home, accompanying the warmth and the charm of the architecture itself.
