Layered with minimalism and delivered with practical considerations – this is the story of a quaint Japanese home which blends traditional values and contemporary creativity amazingly well. Toyosaki in Nishi Ku, Osaka has lots of modern oriental charm infused by the able architects at Coil Ikki Matsumura Ken Design Office. The home is set in this quiet town full of splendid cultural and modern appeal. It has a charming look and oodles of functionality that affirm the architectural values the Japanese endorse. Predominantly done up in sparkling white, the wooden accents in this abode offer a welcome visual break and lend touches of warmth and cosiness. So let’s begin the tour to find out more about this property.

Charming Details for the Façade

The façade is filled with charming details starting with the vintage bars on the windows and the wavy edges of the shingles on the slightly slanting rooftop. The eaves peep out from beneath and sit pretty over the wooden door – the only colourful piece in this white façade. Thanks to the white hue, the details are even more prominent, and even take on a delicate note.

A Simple Take on the Mud Room

The mud room is situated at the entryway and is usually associated with complex characters like holdalls and baskets as well as benches to house shoes and hooks or stands for hanging coats and umbrellas. Yet, this home has managed to simplify the concept by simply adding adequate slim wall-mounted shelves on the right hand side wall. A bike is parked in the open space on the other side. Overall, a neat and tidy look has been achieved for this busy space.

Wooden Touches in the Kitchen

Reclaimed wood makes this main hall a warm and comfy place with simple white walls. The wood laden kitchen is an open one with shelves lining the walls above the counters. The ceiling beams are exposed for maximum effect and the long farm style table is set right in the middle with a workstation along the far end of the long kitchen counter. You can also catch a glimpse of the living area near the window, from here.

Work and Play in the Dining Room

The windows at the end of this space catch our eye instantly thanks to the natural light flooding in. The dining table is a simple one with assorted chairs sitting around the wooden piece. The work station is practically a part of the kitchen counter as we saw before, and offers you the immense flexibility of mixing work and play as per your wish.

Stark Bedroom that Spells Comfort

This bedroom spells comfort in capitals, despite its stylish but austere finish. The exposed beams on the ceiling have been painted white along with the convenient shelves lining the wall behind the bed. Meanwhile, the bed is all about the plush mattress and the platform style setting, minus any exaggerated fuss like a headboard and night stands.

A Sensible Bathroom

The chrome backsplash holds the faucets while a white wall-mounted mirror cabinet make way for storage. The basin comes with an adjoining wooden shelf for arranging toiletries, while a simple rod holds towels. The laundry room sits close by, and enables you to execute your chores with ease.

What we loved about this home is the way practicality and aesthetics have come together for a visually inspiring effect. Simple but elegant materials, textures and hues have been used to achieve this. Here’s another home tour if you are looking for more ideas - The Invisible House from Another Dimension
